BEN YEHUDA STREET

At the heart of modern Jerusalem are the “pedestrianized” precincts of Ben Yehuda Street.

This was built in the 1920’s and constitutes one of the liveliest parts of the city with shops, restaurants, street vendors, and musicians coming together to create a rich and varied atmosphere.  The district of Mahane Yehuda, which means “Field of Judah”, was built in 1929 to house Jewish immigrant workers.  It is famous for its vibrant and very colourful market, selling mainly food stuffs.
